How to export your EDL

First flatten your timeline to V1, then export the EDL.

Step 1 — Flatten your timeline (choose one method)

Method 1 · Simplify Sequence Recommended
  1. Select your sequence in the Project Panel or make your Timeline active.
  2. Go to Sequence → Simplify Sequence…
  3. Check Close vertical gaps on video tracks (and audio if desired).
  4. Optional: also check Remove empty tracks.
  5. Click Simplify. Premiere creates a copy — your original is safe.
Method 2 · Nudge Down Fastest
  1. Select everything in your timeline: Cmd+A (Mac) / Ctrl+A (Win).
  2. Hold Option (Mac) / Alt (Win) and press the Down Arrow repeatedly.
  3. Clips drop one track at a time until everything is on the lowest possible tracks.
Method 3 · Multi-cam / Nested clips If applicable
  1. Select your nested or multi-cam clips in the timeline.
  2. Right-click → Multi-Camera → Flatten.
  3. The container is replaced with the actual underlying footage.

Step 2 — Export the EDL

  1. Go to File → Export → EDL…
  2. Check: Use Source File Name · Include Original Video File Name · Include Original Audio File Name · Include Blank Events
  3. Uncheck: Include Transitions · Include Video Levels · Include Audio Levels
  4. Set Audio Processing to Audio Separately
  5. Tracks to Export — Video: Video 1 · Audio 1: Music (your music track) · all other Audio: None
  6. Click OK, save the .edl file and upload it below.

⚠ Picture clips on V2, V3 etc. will not appear — flatten first. Music on your dedicated audio track is detected automatically.

  1. Flatten your timeline — move all clips to the primary storyline, or use Clip → Overwrite to Primary Storyline.
  2. Go to File → Export XML… — Final Cut does not export EDL natively.
  3. Convert the FCP XML to EDL using a free tool such as XtoCC or Recut.
  4. Upload the resulting .edl file below.

⚠ Final Cut Pro X has no native EDL export. The XML → EDL conversion step is required.

  1. Flatten your timeline — right-click the timeline in the Media Pool and choose Flatten, or consolidate clips onto Video Track 1 manually.
  2. In the Edit page, go to File → Export → Timeline…
  3. Choose EDL as the format and set Source Track to Video 1 only.
  4. Save the .edl file and upload it below.

⚠ Select Video Track 1 only. Exporting all tracks produces one EDL per track.

Flatten all tracks before exporting Only clips on Track V1 are exported to EDL. Anything on V2, V3 etc. appears as a black gap and will be skipped here.
